How to Export Video from the Milestone XProtect Smart Client

 

Launch Milestone XProtect Smart Client 2020 R2

Navigate to your desktop and double-click the Milestone XProtect Smart Client 2020 R2 program; the Milestone program will now open.

 

Legal Compliance Export (Encrypted / Password Protected)

Please use the Legal Compliance Export steps below if you require your video exports to be encrypted and password protected.

Non-Legal Compliance Export for Compatibility (No Encryption / No Password)

Please use the Non-Legal Compliance Export for Compatibility steps below if your video exports do not require encryption or to be password protected. This option also allows for greater compatibility across devices.

Use the steps below for a Legal Compliance Export (Encrypted / Password Protected)

 

Legal Compliance Export: Select a Camera to Export

Click the Playback tab at the top of the Milestone program window. 

 

Legal Compliance Export: Select your Start and Stop Time

Select the camera you wish to export video from. 

At the bottom of the camera view, click the Set Start/End Time button. Clicking this button will activate a check box in the upper-right corner of the camera view. 

Once your video start and end times are configured, click the check box to allow the video to be exported.

 

Legal Compliance Export: Exporting Options for your Video

Once you're ready to export the video, click the Export button at the bottom-right side of the Milestone program window directly below the camera view.

The Export dialog window will open; begin by naming your export file under Export name.

Under Export destination select where you would like to save the export file

Under Choose the export format, we recommend you use the following encryption and password options:

  • XProtect format (this option is selected by default)

  • Include XProtect Smart Client - Player (this option is selected by default)

    • Password Protect: 256-bit AES 

Leave Media player format unselected at this time; continue to use the XProtect format.

 

Legal Compliance Export: Starting the Export Process

Once all export options are configured, you can begin the export process by clicking the Start Export button at the bottom-right of the Export dialog window.

The Export dialog window will close and you'll see Exporting... at the top-right of your screen above the camera view.

You will see Completed once the export is done.

 

Use the steps below for Non-Legal Compliance Export for Compatibility (No Encryption / No Password)

 

Non-Legal Compliance Export for Compatibility: Select your Start and Stop Time

Select the camera you wish to export video from. 

At the bottom of the camera view, click the Set Start/End Time button. Clicking this button will activate a check box in the upper-right corner of the camera view. 

Once your video start and end times are configured, click the check box to allow the video to be exported.

 

Non-Legal Compliance Export for Compatibility: Exporting Options for your Video

Once you're ready to export the video, click the Export button at the bottom-right side of the Milestone program window directly below the camera view.

The Export dialog window will open; begin by naming your export file under Export name.

Under Export destination select where you would like to save the export file

Under Choose the export format, uncheck XProtect format; this will remove encryption from your video exports.

Under Media player format, the following options available:

  • Select content: Video only

  • Select format: MKV format

 

Non-Legal Compliance Export for Compatibility: Starting the Export Process

Once all export options are configured, you can begin the export process by clicking the Start Export button at the bottom-right of the Export dialog window.

The Export dialog window will close and you'll see Exporting... at the top-right of your screen above the camera view.

You will see Completed once the export is done.
