In Schoology, you may want to assign a midterm or final assessment and have it weighed against all the quarters in your gradebook. In this article, we will review how to correctly set up and weigh this type of assignment and ensure that it correctly syncs up with PowerTeacher Pro.

Step One: When you are ready to assign your midterm or final, start by navigating to add materials, and then select “Add Assignment"

Step Two: Fill out the details of the assignment. Before you create it, however, make sure you select the “Set as midterm/final” box next to the “Period” dates. This will set the period to “No grading period), which is what you want

Step Three: Before creating the assignment, change the due date to the final day of the term. This is important to ensure proper syncing with PowerTeacher Pro, see the end of this article for more details about properly syncing between PowerTeacher Pro and Schoology.

Step Four: Once your midterm/final is created, navigate to Gradebook Set Up on the left navigation menu. Once there, find the “Grading Periods & Final Weights” section. You should see a grading period for each quarter, in addition to a grading period for the mid-term or final you created. From here, you can edit the weights of the different grading periods. You have several options:

  1. If you are only giving a midterm or a final, you should set the weight of that assignment to 10, and then the weights of the four quarters to 22.5
  2. If you are giving both a midterm and a final, then you should set the weights for those assignments to 5, and then the weight of all four quarters to 22.5

Successful Syncing to PowerTeacher Pro

Your Midterm or Final will not sync to PowerTeacher Pro naturally. To fix this:

1. Create midterm/final and check off midterm box, then save
2. Edit midterm/final and uncheck the midterm box, then save
3. After assigning the midterm/final and grading it, sync the assignment.
4. After syncing the assignment, edit midterm/final and check off midterm box

We have placed a request to PowerSchool to fix this issue, until it is done, these directions will work.
